This is a relatively modern addition to a shaft loom that was made in the late eighteenth century in Southeastern Pennsylvania and used there for over two hundred years. The mass-produced galvanized iron bolt holds the treadles to the frame of the loom. The large, octagonal ‘nut’ keeps the treadles properly separated so they can be easily used.
